We interviewed Sergh in February, 2007. Thank you Sergh!

• Where were you born?  Minsk, Belarus.
• What brought you here?  I wanted a change in my life.
• When did you start dancing?  6 years old.
• Have you won any competitions you want to tell us about? Many in Russia in ballroom and Latin.
• What is your favorite part about teaching?  Seeing the difference dancing makes on each individual.
• What dancer inspires you the most? Michael Wentick and Beata.
• What is your personal favorite dance, not to teach, just to dance when you're having fun? Rumba.
•  Do you have a favorite movie? Siberian Barber.
•  Any hobbies other than dance that may surprise us?  Sewing.
•  Why would you personally recommend I come to a Friday night practice party?  It is the happiest, friendliest, spot in town.
• What was your first appearance in a dance recital?  What part did you play?  How old were you? In Kindergarten I was a fox.
• Do you come from a family of dancers? Is your family supportive? I did not come from a family of dancers and my family has always been supportive.

Sergh Aliev joined the Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Hamden in June 2004 as a beginner through advanced level teacher.  Sergh comes to us from Belarus, where he taught Ballroom and Latin Dancing at the University of Minsk. This incredible teacher and performer has more than 10 years of experience and innumerable performances under his belt.

He is a graduate of the University of Minsk with a degree in Art, and additional studies at the Belarus University of Culture.  He has enjoyed a diverse dancing career which spans several continents.  He was a recent Top 10 competitor in the 6th Super Korea Cup International Dance Sport Championship.

A recent article in the Hartford Courant detailed the level of excellence that Russian Dancers are now bringing to the United States.  Throughout Europe, Ballroom and Latin Dancing have been a competitive sport for a very long time.  Now that the United States is joining the European Competitions, The Olympic Committee is in the process of making Ballroom and Latin Dancing and Olympic Event.
