- Where were you born? Bronx,
New York.
- What brought you here?
My mom's job was transferred.
- When did you start dancing?
3 years old.
- Have you won any competitions you
want to tell us about? My goal was not competitive
dancing, but teaching.
- What is your favorite part about
teaching? Giving others the ability to
achieve something they never thought they could.
- What dancer inspires you the most?
Martha Graham and Alvin Ailey.
- What is your personal favorite dance,
not to teach, just to dance when you're having fun? Rumba
or Hustle.
- Do you have a pet? Yes.
A cat named Tess.
- Do you have a favorite book?
Most Kellerman books.
- Do you have a favorite movie? Staying
Alive.
- Any hobbies other than dance
that may surprise us? [Interviewer's Note: At this point
Allyson gives an incredulous look, as if there could possibly be anything
BUT dancing.]
- Why would you personally
recommend I come to a Friday night practice party?
It provides
you a fun and exciting environment to use your dancing, and gives you a warm
and accepting place to practice.
- What was your first appearance in a
dance recital? What part did you play? How old were you? I
was 4 yearrs old. The song was On the Good Ship Lollipop, and I ran off
stage petrified.
- Do you come from a family of dancers?
Is your family supportive? No,
but my grandparents always took me to the theatre, and like Steven, I too
was an only child.
