Frequently Asked Questions

Question:  What if I don't have a partner?

No problem.  Any of our talented instructors will be happy to be your partner while you learn.  In group lessons, partners are mixed and matched, everyone dances with everyone else. Our Friday night dance parties are a great way to meet other dancers.  Our current students arrange trips to local dance clubs after our party to continue dancing even after we're closed.

Question:  What types of lessons do you offer?

We offer Private Lessons, Group Lessons, and Friday Night Practice Parties. In addition, to further enhance your experience, we have Expert Coaches throughout the year who provide Coaching Sessions.

Question:  What if I have Two Left Feet?

The Fred Astaire Team of Instructors shares a common teaching method.  We can teach anyone to dance by guiding a new student through a building process of steps, styles, and form.  Our teaching system focuses on your ability to dance, and the basic element of dancing.

The Fred Astaire System is one which can be adapted by each instructor to any level from beginner to the advanced competitor.  Each student is uniquely brought through the system with attention to his/her interests, styles, and learning potential.

Question:  What if I don't pick things up quickly??

No problem. Our teaching method is centered on the student. Group lessons are kept small to allow the instructor to focus on each person's abilities. Private lessons are adapted to the interests, learning style, and pace of the student.

If you're still not sure that you can learn to dance, but have always wanted to try, why not try out introductory special?

Private Lessons:  One-on-one instruction lasting 45 minutes.  In this lesson we focus on several different dances, the steps, body control, frame, the correct way to lead or follow, balance, and technique.

Group Lessons:  The group classes are structured to focus on one particular dance and its techniques.  The group class is a great way to meet other students and focus your time on a dance that you need a little extra assistance with, or just to be introduced to a new dance.  They are 45 minutes long.  A group class calendar is available here and any instructor can help book you into these classes.

Friday Night Parties:  The Friday night parties are from 8:00 to 9:30 PM each week.  They are a great way to practice what you've learned during your lessons.  The music for each practice session is meant to include all the dances we currently offer.  It's a great way to see something new, practice something you've learned, and to socialize with both the staff and other students.

Social Functions:  The Studio often hosts trips, evenings out, or other events within the studio.  Please speak with any of the instructors for further information.

Coaching Sessions:  Fred Astaire constantly promotes the highest level of dance.  To achieve this our studio continually offers coaching sessions with World and National Champions.  To date this studio has hosted many of the world's best competitive coaches who specialize in both International and American Styles of Dance.  These coaches are available to both our students and our instructors.  These sessions are reserved in advance and are offered throughout the year.

Competition Packages:  Some students prefer to gauge their progress against other students at their levels at our Regional and National competitions.  Our studio participates in many competitive events and hosts both teacher and student champions.  Competitions are a great way to expand your dance knowledge, learn more, enjoy more, and dance more than you've thought possible.  Ask any instructor for more information regarding dates, locations, and scheduled events.
